New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to flag off India’s first hydrogen-powered train between Jind and Sonipat in Haryana on Friday, marking a significant milestone in the country’s transition towards clean and sustainable rail transportation.
The hydrogen-powered train has been designed and built in India using indigenous technology, reflecting the country’s growing capabilities in developing advanced and environmentally friendly transport solutions under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
Powered by hydrogen fuel cell technology, the train produces minimal emissions, making it an important step towards reducing the carbon footprint of the railway sector. The project is expected to contribute to India’s broader goals of promoting green mobility, energy efficiency and sustainable development.
The launch of the country’s first hydrogen-powered train also underscores the government’s commitment to building a clean, green and self-reliant railway network, while advancing innovation and indigenous technological development in the transport sector.
